The Miami Dolphins released kicker Riley Patterson on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, as the winless team prepares for its Week 7 game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. Miami returns from its bye week at 0-5.
Patterson struggled with consistency over the first five weeks. He missed field goals in each of the team’s first two games and failed to convert an extra point in Week 5. He finished his Dolphins stint with five of six extra points. He also missed his only attempt from beyond 50 yards and made one of two from 40 to 49 yards. Miami did not attempt a field goal from 40 yards or longer in Weeks 3 through 5.
The team is moving forward with Zane Gonzalez, who is expected to join the Dolphins after a workout, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported. Schultz also said Miami worked out veteran kicker Justin Tucker.
Gonzalez has a career field-goal conversion rate of 81% and an extra-point success rate of 95.3%. Last season with the Atlanta Falcons, he made seven of nine field-goal attempts from at least 50 yards. He has not appeared in a regular-season game in 2026.
