Drivers on Federal Highway in Boca Raton should expect delays for roughly the next 10 weeks. Lane closures tied to the Florida Department of Transportation’s US 1 project began Monday, Oct. 19.

Between SE 5th Street/SE Mizner Boulevard and NE 8th Street/Mizner Boulevard, traffic drops to one lane in each direction from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while crews work in the median. South of there, between Camino Real and SE 5th Street, single-lane closures are allowed at any time. Two-lane closures are permitted on that stretch during set overnight and off-peak windows, and on weekends and non-event days. FDOT says access to businesses and homes will be maintained, and the 35 mph speed limit remains in place.

The closures are part of the State Road 5/US 1 Lane Repurposing and Resurfacing Project, which runs from Camino Real to NE 8th Street and is scheduled to finish in fall 2027. From Camino Real to SE Mizner Boulevard, the 11-foot outside lane is being removed so the project can add 7-foot separated bike lanes and 11-foot sidewalks. The plan also includes a signalized mid-block crosswalk south of Plaza Real, a second northbound left-turn lane at Camino Real, new mast-arm signals, upgraded pedestrian signals, ADA-compliant curb ramps and fresh pavement along the full corridor.

Residents can find closure details on the City of Boca Raton’s road closures page. FDOT also posts updated lane and pedestrian impact information in its weekly Palm Beach County traffic report.
