Federal marshals arrested a third teenager on Oct. 15 in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old Boynton Beach man in August, police said. The suspect is a 17-year-old Boynton Beach youth whose name authorities withheld because of his age. He faces a charge of accessory after the fact to a capital felony and was booked into the Juvenile Assessment Center.
The victim, identified by initials N.B., was shot on Saturday, Aug. 8, near the 100 block of Northwest 8th Avenue. An automated shot-detection system alerted dispatchers just before 5 p.m., and callers also reported gunfire to 911. Off-duty Boynton Beach officers at nearby Sara Sims Park reached him first. He spoke with officers before he was taken to a hospital, where he died after emergency surgery.
Detectives said the shots came from a vehicle that sped off. Investigators tracked the suspect car to Quantum Lakes Drive, where they found it abandoned, and later linked a second vehicle to the crime. Two other 17-year-olds were charged earlier. S.A.M., of Boynton Beach, was arrested Aug. 17 and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm. J.J.-B., of Lantana, was charged with the same offense and held in a Broward County juvenile detention facility.
The Boynton Beach Police Department said the multi-agency investigation remains open. It credited the Lantana Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service with helping make the arrests.
