Broward County Animal Care is holding a free Halloween event this weekend that doubles as an adoption drive. The county shelter’s Pup or Treat celebration runs Saturday, Oct. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 2400 SW 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale.
The family event includes doggy trick-or-treating, a pet costume contest, a pumpkin patch, pup cups and vendors that welcome pets. Visitors can also meet dogs that are looking for permanent homes.
All pet adoption fees will be waived during the celebration. Adopters will still pay the required pet registration fee.
Shelter director Doug Brightwell said the event is meant to bring neighbors together while helping shelter animals find homes. Residents who want to see available dogs and cats before the event can browse listings at Broward.org/Animal.
The celebration is free and open to the public.
