The City of Hollywood is moving ahead with a plan to redevelop the Orangebrook Golf and Country Club, the 36-hole course on the city’s west side, through a public-private partnership. The City Commission approved a comprehensive agreement with GCF Development and PPG Development in July 2023.
The project grew out of the 2019 voter-approved general obligation bond, which had set aside money to revitalize the course. The city estimated those improvements would cost taxpayers $24.7 million. Before that work moved forward, the city received an unsolicited proposal for the course, and a selection committee reviewed competing bids under the state’s P3 statute.
The committee ranked GCF Development and PPG Development first, followed by E2L and Ernie ELS Group. The city posted presentations and meeting videos from the process, dating from December 2022 through the July 13, 2023, commission meeting.
For Hollywood golfers and nearby residents, the agreement means the course’s future is now tied to a private developer’s plans rather than a city-funded renovation. The city’s materials on the project do not lay out a construction timeline in the posted text.
