A 21-year-old woman is in jail after the Broward Sheriff’s Office said her car struck and killed a man early Saturday in Dania Beach, then drove away from the scene.

Deputies were called to the 200 block of Sheridan Street just after 1:30 a.m. They found the man lying in the roadway. First responders declared him dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

Investigators said car parts left behind pointed to a Hyundai Sonata from model years 2024 through 2026. Detectives tracked down the vehicle and arrested the driver, Keila Maldonado, the agency said. BSO announced the arrest Sunday.

Maldonado faces charges of failing to stop and remain at the scene of a crash involving a death and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact BSO. The case remains under investigation.
