Hours of rain left some roads in Parkland flooded overnight, making driving difficult on Parkside Drive, where poor lighting made standing water hard for drivers to see. The area received about 5 inches of rain, according to the report.

In the Hollywood Lakes neighborhood, 4.5 inches of rain flooded some streets, and cars splashed through the water. Driver Theresa Deebs said the flooding was less than she expected, though she remained cautious after past experiences with flooded roads that damaged her car’s engine.

Pumps were running to move water from storm drains into the Intracoastal Waterway, helping the drainage system keep up. One home had its own pump working to clear water from its driveway.

Sylvia Monroe, who lives in a neighborhood prone to flooding, said the water appeared to be draining faster on Saturday. She said she had her boots on and was ready for a rainy weekend.
