The Humane Society of Broward County has a range of cats and kittens available for adoption, including two 10-week-old kittens named Maggie and Cowboy. Caitlin Pechin, a shelter representative, introduced the pair on Local 10’s “Adopt a Pet” segment.
Maggie and Cowboy are among more than 50 pets the shelter took in from a Florida Panhandle shelter affected by a hurricane. The shelter now has cats and kittens of different ages, sizes and breeds.
Pechin said kittens are playful, but adopting a cat is a long-term commitment. Cats can live more than 20 years and need proper care, training, enrichment and financial support. She also suggested that people considering one kitten think about adopting two, since a companion can keep them entertained and make the move into a new home easier.
People can start by completing a pre-adoption application at Humanebroward.com, where they can also see available pets. The shelter is open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
