Stone crab season opened Thursday, October 15, and runs through Saturday, May 1. Stone crabs can only be legally harvested during that window, and fishermen take only the claws before returning the crab to the water.
Miami New Times food editor Nicole Lopez-Alvar has compiled 13 spots across Miami-Dade and Broward counties where diners can get the claws this season. The list ranges from waterfront restaurants and a seafood truck to long-running markets and delivery services.
Among the picks are Amara at Paraiso on Biscayne Bay, where claws are cooked on the dock before delivery, and Captain’s Tavern in Pinecrest, a family-run spot that has served stone crabs since 1971. Blue Runner Seafood operates a stone crab truck in Edgewater and North Miami. Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach, which opened in 1913, is also on the list.
Several restaurants have added season-specific deals. Dune Beach Bar at The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne plans to offer claws as a weekend special starting Oct. 23, and Edge Miami at the Four Seasons Hotel Miami includes them in its Sunday brunch buffet for $125 per person.
Delivery options include George Stone Crab, which ships claws in five sizes, and Holy Crab Delivery in Coral Gables. Restaurants often sell out of claws during the season, so the article advises calling ahead.
