Deerfield Beach Vice Mayor Michael Hudak has been appointed to the Broward County Housing Authority Board of Commissioners by Gov. Ron DeSantis. The governor’s office announced the appointment on a Friday, as state offices were closing for the weekend.
The housing authority is a five-member panel that oversees an independent special district providing affordable housing to low-income county residents. According to the agency’s website, it serves more than 12,000 residents a day through direct housing, rental subsidies and counseling. The website lists two current members: Chair John Thompson Loos III and Karyne Pompilus.
Hudak, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is a founding member of the Deerfield Beach Economic Development Council, Deerfield Beach Rotary and Deerfield Beach Kiwanis. He also sits on the executive board of the Deerfield Beach Chamber of Commerce. He was first elected to the Deerfield Beach Commission in 2019, won re-election with 56% of the vote in 2023 and was sworn in as vice mayor in March.
The governor’s office identified Hudak as an Aflac insurance agent. His city biography and LinkedIn profile list him as director of human resources at the law firm Steiger Green & Feiner. He is 61 and holds degrees from Florida Atlantic University and Broward College.
