Incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody held a campaign event in Weston on Friday alongside Rep. Byron Donalds, the Republican nominee for governor. Her Democratic challenger, Angie Nixon, is running a tight race for the Senate seat.
Moody still holds more cash overall, according to campaign records. But Nixon raised more last quarter, $7.6 million to Moody’s $5.8 million, a figure reported late Friday.
Moody said she has dedicated her life to supporting and defending the Constitution. Nixon, speaking to CNN, said Democrats can win in Florida and that she is reaching out to Republicans and Libertarians, not just Democrats.
Nixon’s campaign says volunteers are scheduled to knock on doors from Wilton Manors to Key Largo. Moody, who was appointed to the Senate last year, posted an event Thursday in Polk County on her social media.
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, is scheduled to campaign for Nixon over the weekend.
For South Florida voters, the race puts Broward and Miami-Dade doors, phone banks and rallies at the center of the Senate contest in the final weeks before the Nov. 3 election.
