Attorney Michael I. Feldman, a partner at Krinzman Huss Lubetsky Feldman & Hotte LLP, talks with Michael Miller of Community Newspapers about Temple Beth Tov and the court-supervised receivership that now oversees the congregation.
Temple Beth Tov began in 1956 as the Southwest Jewish Center, founded by Morris “Maishe” Harris. According to background materials supplied for the interview, it served the Jewish community in southwest mainland Miami for decades and marked its 60th anniversary in 2016.
The congregation later struggled to rebuild its membership after the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the materials, and those financial problems contributed to its difficulties. A lawsuit seeking dissolution ultimately led to Feldman’s appointment as receiver.
The interview also looks at how neighborhood and demographic changes affect longstanding institutions, and what a community loses when a place of worship that has served residents for generations faces an uncertain future. The full interview is available on Community Newspapers.
