Tamarac residents packed the October 14 commission meeting to complain about the Red Road concert held October 9 at the Tamarac Village Amphitheater. Many said the music kept going until 2 a.m. and rattled their windows.
Carol Mendelson, a candidate for the District Four seat, said people were still partying into the early morning hours. She said she wants to know how much money the event brought in and how much it cost. Mendelson also said large crowds spilled onto the roads around the amphitheater late at night.
Mayor Michelle J. Gomez, who opposed the event, wrote an apology letter to affected residents on October 15. She said the event should not have run past its posted hours and was not well planned. Gomez said Pine Island Road from Commercial Boulevard to City Hall was closed for more than five hours, which kept some residents from getting to work or back home, and many could not sleep.
Former Commissioner Elvin Villalobos raised concerns in a Facebook post. He said public roads were blocked, alcohol was being consumed, trash was left in the streets and no one has publicly accounted for ticket sales or who collected the income. The event was led by Vice Mayor Marlon Bolton, who was marking ten years on the commission.
