Two teenage boys were arrested in Hallandale Beach after a car theft spree that began in Miami Beach and ended in a crash, according to authorities. Detectives are still searching for a third suspect.
The spree started around lunchtime on a Wednesday, when three people in a Tesla targeted two homes on Chase Avenue near the 3400 block in Miami Beach. Surveillance video showed them pulling on door handles of a Mercedes-Maybach, and one tried the same on a neighbor’s vehicle. Locked doors kept them out.
The group then drove south to Kendall. Surveillance video shows a bronze Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen pulling out of a driveway near Southwest 136th Street and 102nd Avenue that afternoon. An arrest report says three people entered an open garage, broke into two unlocked vehicles, and took the SUV after one found its key fob. Another stole a wallet and purse from a Ford F-150.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit tracked the G-Wagen north of the county line. Video posted by Only In Dade shows it weaving between cars at a red light before crashing. Hallandale Beach police arrested 14-year-old Daveion Gill and 16-year-old Guiyermo Spillman Jr. at Sheridan Street and North Park Road. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft unit then booked them.
According to the report, Gill confessed to the Miami Beach attempted burglaries and the G-Wagen theft. Both boys face multiple felony charges, including unarmed burglary of an occupied dwelling and traveling across county lines to commit a burglary.
Anyone with information about the third suspect can call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Tips can be anonymous, and a reward of up to $5,000 may be available.
