Two seniors at Miami Central High School are in the running for the Nat Moore Trophy, the award honoring South Florida’s top high school football player. Trezavant Boyd and James Perrone are both on the list of contenders.

The school has a strong recent record with the award. Rueben Bain Jr. became the first Miami Central player to win it in 2022. Perrone, the Rockets’ dual-threat quarterback, would be the first quarterback to take the trophy if he wins.

Perrone described the honor as the state’s version of the Heisman Trophy. Boyd said being nominated puts him in the company of past winners such as Jeremiah Smith and Malachi Toney, both of whom came from South Florida programs.

Both players said they feel the weight of the school’s history, which includes state championships and NFL talent. Boyd said he wants to build his own legacy at the school.

Fans can nominate a player at NatMooretrophy.com. The CBS Miami Nat Moore Trophy is sponsored by FPL.
