Mary Nava says her beauty business in Palm Beach Gardens is about more than her own career. Nava, who runs Lashes Brows and Beauty by Mary, told WPTV she now works alongside a team of Latina beauty professionals and can offer other women a path into the trade.
Nava left Venezuela and moved to South Florida about a decade ago without a set plan. After becoming certified in Lake Worth Beach, she opened her business in Palm Beach Gardens. She said the early years were hard. She had to adjust to a new culture and language and build a client base from nothing in a community where English was the dominant language.
“I needed people trusting in me and my services,” Nava said. She said she never considered quitting.
Her daughter, Maiah Rodriguez, said she hopes to follow her mother’s work ethic. Nava said she measures success by the opportunities she can give others. “This country gave me opportunities, and now I can bring opportunities to someone else,” she said.
