A northeast Miami-Dade father was arrested Tuesday after Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies said he starved his two children because he believed the government was putting something in their food.
According to the arrest report, Wendy Louis, 40, also locked the children in their bedrooms for days at a time, made them use a bucket as a toilet and kept them out of school. The children told deputies they had not attended classes since August 2023, when Louis withdrew them, and they were not receiving homeschooling.
Deputies responded to Louis’s home on Northeast 175th Street for a welfare check after relatives contacted law enforcement. The relatives said the children reported they had not been fed in days and were forced to drink water from the shower head. Deputies wrote that both children appeared “extremely small and thin for their age,” with matted hair.
Louis refused to be interviewed by investigators. He faces charges of child neglect, domestic violence and resisting an officer without violence. A judge set his bond at $5,000 on each of the two child neglect counts and ordered him to stay away from the children. As of Wednesday afternoon, he remained in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
