Melodic death metal band Arch Enemy is set to perform at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale this Friday night. The group is marking its 30th anniversary, and WSVN’s Deco spoke with two members ahead of the show.
Lead guitarist and founding member Michael Amott described the band’s sound as extreme metal. He said it grew out of heavy metal and the bands that came before it, such as Slayer and Metallica, pushed a little further. Amott said that when he started the band, he wanted to build the ultimate extreme metal group, one that is heavy but also melodic and catchy, with strong guitar parts and solid songwriting.
The audience has changed along with the music. Amott said fans who were young and rowdy in the mosh pit 30 years ago now stand farther back, while a newer generation sits in the VIP booths.
The band’s newest member is lead singer Lauren Hart. She said she felt a lot of pressure before her arrival was announced, but the response from fans has been overwhelmingly positive.
Amott said metal shows offer a positive release of energy, and he expects fans to leave feeling recharged for the next day. The concert is at Revolution Live, 100 Southwest 3rd Avenue, in Fort Lauderdale.
