The third live-action “Street Fighter” movie opens in theaters Oct. 16, and its cast says the role demanded far more than research. Advanced screenings were held Oct. 14 at CMX Cinemas Dolphin Mall and Regal Dania Pointe.

Andrew Koji, who plays Ryu, said the team spent a long time studying characters that fans have followed for decades. Callina Liang, who plays Chun-Li, said two years of martial arts training during drama school only covered the basics for a production of this scale.

Noah Centineo, who plays Ken Masters, described a training schedule that began six weeks before filming in Australia. He said the cast trained two hours of stunts in the morning, two more in the afternoon and about an hour and a half in the gym, six days a week, with meals together and recovery time built in.

For South Florida moviegoers, the film’s local premiere screenings at two Broward and Miami-Dade theaters offer a preview of the action before the wider release.
