A Margate man was arrested Oct. 9 after a 911 dispatcher overheard his wife say he was hitting her and planned to kill her, according to a Margate Police Department arrest report and a probable cause affidavit.

Dustin Michael Eubanks, 37, faces charges of false imprisonment, domestic battery, resisting an officer without violence and violating a domestic violence injunction. Police said he had been barred from contacting the woman under a protection order that was served on him Oct. 2, the same day he was arrested by Margate police on a separate domestic battery allegation.

The victim told investigators that Eubanks, her husband of 10 years, had moved out about a week earlier because of the injunction. She said he returned, and the two argued after he became angry that she had been speaking with his brother and his ex-girlfriend, according to the affidavit.

Police said Eubanks punched the woman, pushed her into a laundry basket and piled clothing and other items on top of her. He then shut the closet door and told her she could not leave, the victim told investigators. She said she could not escape and feared for her life.

Officers forced entry into the home after the dispatcher kept an open line with the woman. Once inside, they found Eubanks near the front door, where he allegedly had stacked furniture to block them. He was taken to the Broward County Main Jail. Investigators documented extensive bruising, swelling and redness around the woman’s left shoulder and neck.
