Coral Springs resident Kendall Parrott took first place at the BCAA Championship on Friday at Markham Park, earning the title as Broward County’s top girls’ cross-country runner.

Parrott, a sophomore at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, finished first among 127 runners with a time of 20:08.16. She finished second at the same meet a year ago.

“This means everything to me considering last year I came in second,” Parrott said. She said she nearly quit during the race but kept pushing through to the finish.

Parrott has been running 5Ks since she was a child and started racing them in seventh grade at Coral Springs Charter. Next, she will prepare for the postseason, competing at the District and Regional meets. If she advances, she could compete for a state championship next month.
