A 21-year-old man is accused of leading Florida Highway Patrol troopers on a high-speed chase through Palm Beach County, then running from his disabled vehicle in Lake Worth Beach, according to a warrant affidavit.

The chase started around 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 13, when a trooper clocked a black BMW SUV traveling east on Southern Boulevard near Kirk Road at 80 mph in a 50 mph zone. The affidavit says the driver slowed briefly when the trooper tried to stop him, then accelerated away. The SUV allegedly reached about 134 mph on Southern Boulevard and hit the same speed later on southbound I-95.

The BMW left I-95 at Sixth Avenue, where a trooper used a PIT maneuver to stop it. Investigators say the SUV then drove through a grassy area and backed through a wooden fence before it stopped near Sixth Avenue and Griswold Drive.
