Inspectors ordered Keke’s Breakfast Cafe in Parkland to close on October 12 after documenting 15 violations, including flying insects landing on clean utensils and equipment. The restaurant is at 7609 State Road 7.

According to the inspection report, small flying insects were found in the dishwashing area, where they landed on utensils, equipment, walls and boxes of soda. Inspectors also saw insects on walls in the dining room near the bar counter.

Inspectors also documented handwashing and food handling lapses. In one case, an employee picked up soiled equipment from the floor, cleaned a grill, then handled ham from a cooler without changing gloves or washing hands. In another, an employee touched her face before handling clean equipment and hot sauce bottles. She washed her hands after being instructed on proper procedures.

Inspectors also found unwashed strawberries being cut and portioned in the kitchen and recorded food temperature violations.

The restaurant must correct the problems and pass a reinspection before it can reopen.
