Miami Police have opened an investigation into a disturbing video of a dead dog tied to two cinderblocks and floating just below the water’s surface. The video circulated widely on social media this week and drew angry reactions online.
The person who posted the video said the dog was found on a sunken sailboat, but did not say where that was. Miami Beach Police said the incident did not happen in their jurisdiction. Miami Police said the video depicts a suspected case of animal abuse in the Coconut Grove area and that the department became aware of it on Oct. 13.
In a statement to 7News, Miami Police said detectives are following leads to determine what happened and to identify the person responsible. The department has not said where or when the dog was first dumped.
Anyone with information can call Miami Police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
