Florida Atlantic returned to practice Tuesday after a bye week with its best start since 2020, a 4-1 record that includes a 3-1 mark in non-conference games, the best in program history. The Owls next travel to West Point to play Army on Saturday.
Head coach Zach Kittley said the team expected to be 4-1 at this point but has not arrived yet. He pointed to a stretch of seven straight games ahead. FAU beat Navy at home in its first service academy matchup of the season.
Preparing for Army is difficult, Kittley said, because it is hard to copy the triple option offense in practice. The coaches asked the scout team to get physical and play its role in the look. Linebacker Leon Hart Jr. said the team must stay focused and detailed and play hard for all four quarters on every snap.
The game marks only the second meeting between the schools. Army beat FAU in Boca Raton in 2024.
