A West Palm Beach church is giving students a hot meal before the school day and feeding families and people experiencing homelessness at the same time.
Trinity United Methodist Church serves free breakfast every Tuesday and Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. during the school year. Students and families can pick up a hot, balanced meal before heading to class. The breakfast ministry started in 2016. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it switched from dine-in service to a grab-and-go format, which it still uses.
Willie Miller II, co-coordinator of the church’s feeding ministry, said the goal is to respond to hunger in the community, including quiet struggles among neighbors. Miller also said the church wants to be a welcoming place for seniors who feel isolated and for students dealing with problems before school.
WPTV reporter Christy Waite spoke with neighbors who use the program. One mother said the meals help children before they leave for school, calling the effort great for the kids.
