The City of Miramar is reminding residents that help is available for anyone experiencing abuse, as October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Commissioner Yvette Colbourne made the call in a post on the city’s Instagram account on Tuesday.

The city’s Safe House Program provides a safe location along with connections to shelter, supportive services and ongoing care. Residents can also reach the Miramar Victim Services Unit at 954-602-4130 for assistance.

Anyone in immediate danger should call 911. For 24-hour crisis support, residents can contact Women In Distress at 954-761-1133 or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.

The city said the goal is to break the silence, support survivors and build a community where everyone feels safe.
