A 72-year-old man rear-ended a parked Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office cruiser on Saturday night in Northwest Miami-Dade, then tried to hide an alcohol container during the traffic stop that followed, according to deputies. Dashcam video obtained by 7News shows the van slowly bumping the back of the cruiser near Northwest 32nd Avenue and 79th Street.
Witnesses captured the aftermath on their phones. One is heard saying the driver tossed a bottle to the side during the stop. Others said he could barely walk and appeared badly intoxicated when he spoke with deputies.
The driver, Pedro Gonzalez, 72, had bloodshot eyes and wobbled when he got out of the van, the arrest report says. The deputy ended the field sobriety exercises for Gonzalez’s safety. An ambulance responded to the scene, but no injuries were reported.
Gonzalez faces charges of driving under the influence, DUI damage to property and driving with a suspended license.
