Miami-Dade deputy Luis Hernandez honored for UFC win

Miami-Dade Deputy Luis Hernandez received a county proclamation and ceremonial key for his professional MMA success and community service.

Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Luis Hernandez was recognized by County Commissioner Roberto J. Gonzalez for his recent success as a mixed martial arts fighter with the UFC, the sheriff’s office announced Monday, Oct. 5.

Gonzalez presented Hernandez with a proclamation and a ceremonial key in recognition of his achievements as a professional fighter and his continued service to Miami-Dade County. Gonzalez represents District 11.

Hernandez won his most recent bout on Sept. 26 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. He defeated Sedriques Dumas by first-round guillotine choke submission in a UFC Fight Night light heavyweight matchup. The victory raised his professional record to 9-0.

Last month, Hernandez earned a UFC contract through his performance on Dana White’s Contender Series, the league’s developmental showcase.
